Chamber of Commerce announces award recipients
The Vinton County Chamber of Commerce has announced the recipients of this year's awards to be given during their annual meeting and banquet. Tickets are now on sale for the event on October 11 at the Vinton County High School. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m.

The Chamber holds this event each year to celebrate the people, businesses and organizations that are doing good work in the community. This is also a way to bring together community members for a relaxing evening of networking and fun.

This year's awards will be given to some very special community members.

Person of the Year will be given posthumously to Linda Remy, a longtime Chamber board member and tireless supporter of Vinton County, who passed away this summer.

Business of the Year will be presented to Ahoy Transport, a pioneering business dedicated to helping Vinton County residents meet their transportation needs.

The Community Spirit award will be given to the Vinton County Fitness Club for their work in making health and fitness accessible to all. A special award for Distinguished Service will be given posthumously to Ryan Seitz, a young firefighter killed in the line of duty last year.

This year's event, which is open to the public, will be catered by Flutes and Peppercorns and will feature local celebrity waiters. Tickets cost $20 per person and must be purchased by October 6.

Visitors' Center benefits from WesBanco donation.

The Vinton County Visitors' Center has benefited from the generosity of WesBanco Community Development. WesBanco recently donated $3,500 toward the office that houses the Vinton County Chamber of Commerce and the Vinton County Convention and Visitors' Bureau (CVB).

WesBanco Vice President and District Sales Manager Paula Henderson said they believe it important for the CVB and Chamber of Commerce to maintain a storefront presence. WesBanco considers themselves a community bank and the importance of assisting our community. We recognize the importance of these organizations and we want to keep this office functioning so they may continue serving visitors and residents," Henderson said. "We view it as an investment in our community.

The Visitors' Center operates through a partnership between the Chamber of Commerce, CVB and Vinton County Commissioners' Development Department. Interim Development Director Terri Fetherolf expressed her gratitude for the gift. WesBanco is a great community partner and this donation will help the office continue to provide services to Vinton County. In a community with limited resources it is imperative that we all work together, Fetherolf said. This office serves as a Visitors' Center, assists Chamber members and hosts many events and trainings throughout the year. This work is made easier by the support of WesBanco she said.

The Vinton County Visitors' Center is located at 104 W. Main St. in McArthur. The office produces an annual visitors' guide and operates www.vintoncountytravel.com and www.vintoncounty.com. Local souvenirs, business information and area phone books are just a few of the things offered there. The office also coordinates Christmas in Downtown, the monthly Chamber of Commerce Brown Bag Lunch, trainings and other projects. Call 596-5033 for more information.
